BACK TO OUR WINTER BEST-SELLER: THE GIR AT THE SAGUENAY FJORD

Camille Reignier, our operations coordinator, tried the Saguenay Fjord – In the Heart of Winter tour (reference: 1MCL) last January in order to meet our providers. We met her so that she could tell us about the particularities and strengths of this mythical program at Receptour. Let’s go for an overview of the key points to remember from her experience!

PRACTICAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE STAY

The tour is a guaranteed departure. Between December 19th and March 11th, 2023, the tour had 11 departures, including two specials for Christmas and the New Year.

The trip lasts for 8 nights and 7 days in total, and makes you discover the main activities of Canada in winter, from Montreal to Quebec City, going mainly through the Saguenay Fjord where travelers stay 4 nights and 5 days. It is during these 5 days in the Saguenay that our operations coordinator had the chance to accompany a group.

A similar program is available with two days of snowmobiling instead of one and a full day of dog sledding instead of half a day, under the reference 2MCL. This is a good opportunity for travelers who want an even more intense experience, beyond an introduction to these winter activities.

The groups of travelers are composed of a maximum of 50 people who are divided into small sub-groups of about ten people for them to enjoy the activities to the maximum. It’s a very well thought out trip and with extraordinary guides!” Camille

ACTIVITIES OFFERED ON THE 1MCL

The MCL is a multi-discovery program of winter activities in a wilderness area of Northern Quebec. A multitude of activities are offered: snowmobiling, dog sledding, spa, sauna, snowshoeing, street-hockey, Quinzhee, ice fishing, sliding… For each activity, travelers are divided into small groups and rotate according to the day.

In the evening, several activities are also presented. On the program: night snowmobiling, themed evening, campfire and dance party! For Camille, the multiplicity of activities is “without a doubt the great strength of this program!

VISITS INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM

On the way from Montreal to the Saguenay, the groups stop at the Lac Beauport sugar bush to attend a presentation on the history of maple syrup and to have lunch in a typical sugar shack. “It’s a very popular meeting place for travelers because the sugar shack is a typical experience that is part of the traveler’s imagination when he or she plans on the destination” Camille.

At the end of their stay, after leaving the Cap au Leste lodge, the travellers are dropped off in Quebec City where they stay at the First Nations Museum Hotel. They have a free day in the city, but can also benefit from a guided tour in addition.

On the last day, they are driven back to Montreal, where they have another free afternoon to visit the city before being dropped off at the airport to catch their flight.

FOCUS ON ACCOMMODATIONS

The main accommodation of the stay in the Saguenay Fjord is the Pourvoirie du Cap au Leste where the travelers spend 4 nights in comfort, with a spa and a swimming pool at their disposal.

This accommodation is particularly impressive. I tried it for the first time, I can say that the view is simply incredible and the facilities are up to the standard of the stay. What is most striking is this snowy environment on high ground with a very unobstructed view and a feeling of serenity. It’s a guarantee for travelers of memorable memories.” Camille.

In the Outfitter, it is possible to choose between a standard or a luxury cottage. The outfitter provides the cold weather equipment that travelers will use for their outdoor activities during their stay.

In Quebec City, travelers spend a night in the First Nations Hotel-Museum with its unique decor inspired by Amerindian art. In Montreal, they will spend a night in the 4-star Delta Hotel, in the heart of downtown Quebec’s economic and cultural capital.

CAMILLE’S FAVORITES

For our operations manager, the big advantage of the tour is the multitude of varied activities that follow one another during these 5 intense days where travelers have no time to get bored. In particular, she loved the sled dogs, the introduction to field hockey without skates and the slides. She is delighted to return from her stay!
